Will AI Leave Programmers Without Jobs?

Exploring how AI is reshaping roles, reducing inefficiencies, and redefining value in software development

A Shift in the Tech Industry: Threat or Opportunity?

Do you believe that artificial intelligence will leave all of us—programmers—without jobs?

From a client’s perspective, this is great news.
From the perspective of an average programmer, it feels like a tragedy.

For years, programmers have belonged to a kind of untouchable, highly paid elite. I’ve seen it myself: people lying on a beach with a MacBook, casually answering calls while enjoying the sun.

Over time, an entire industry formed around this. Even the simplest task required assembling a full agile team: a project manager, analyst, team lead, architect, DevOps engineers, testers, and more. A whole unit with communication systems, documentation, and processes — so much so that even small projects could exceed all reasonable cost limits.

This began to slow down progress and innovation.

The mass adoption of AI in production is now a revolutionary and exciting step forward. Almost all of my close friends who have been in IT since the 1990s—and who are now C-level executives—are sharing with great enthusiasm how the opportunities for growth today exceed anything we could have imagined before.

AI in Production: Why Critical Thinking Matters More Than Ever

Now that we have the first real production experience with AI, we can begin to draw conclusions.

AI implementation is making less relevant those roles in the IT industry that do not create added value—those who cannot think creatively. Designers, programmers, testers, and others who needed extremely etailed instructions, constant supervision, and extensive justification for even the
most obvious decisions are becoming less necessary. AI can now handle all of that.

IT Developer Acceleration: How AI Integration Unlocks the Next Level of Engineering

On the other hand, those who may not have deep technical expertise in complex frameworks—but who can communicate effectively with clients and bring projects to successful completion—are becoming indispensable. Moreover, with the help of AI, their energy and capabilities will now drive progress for all of us.

I believe this should inspire us. We are finally entering a moment where our civilization of talented and gifted engineers can move to the next level of development.

Most importantly, new and meaningful technical projects can now be implemented using reasonable resources.
