MS SQL Server
Microsoft SQL server is a platform for data warehousing, e-commerce applications and large-scale online processing (OLTP). It also acts as a business platform for intelligence in data integration, reporting, and analyses. Components of SQL server include the database engine, reporting services, and analysis services notification, full-text search, integration services, service broker and replication. The SQL Server is a studio for tasks management and development.
The studios include Business Intelligence Development Studio and SQL Server Management Studio. In Management Studio, the services include management of SQL Database Engine and notification solutions. In Business Intelligence Development Studio, the services include the development of intelligent solutions with the help of Analysis Services. Both studios are integrated closely with Microsoft Office System and Microsoft Visual Studio. In the studios, MS SQL Server offers users with a graphical tool for designing, developing, deploying, and administering of analytical objects, relational databases, replication topographies, data transformation packages, and notifications.
The main component of SQL Server is a database engine, which is used in securing, processing and storing of data. The database engine ensures controlled access and a quick transaction processing for data as required by most data processing applications in most organization. The next component of MS SQL Server is the Analysis Services, which are the main services in ensuring rapid data analysis, online analytical processing (OLAP) delivery, and function of data mining. OLAP allows one to create, design and manage various structures that are multidimensional. These structures contain aggregated data and details from many data sources.
The analysis services are very important because they ensure fast top-down intuitive analysis of large amounts of information. As for data mining in the analyses services, it is supported with tools and features that ensure data mining solutions. The solutions include a set of industry-standard data mining algorithms, data mining design, and DMX language used in the creation of complex prediction queries. These features are also used in discovering the data trends and then predicting the future expectations. The third component of the MS SQL Server is the integration services. This includes the extraction, transformation, and loading of components and replaces Data Transformation Services (DTS).
Integration component is a platform that is used in creating data integration in business level and gives solutions for data transformation. Replication component is used in the distribution and creation of database objects in the databases and later synchronize databases to ensure consistency. The other component of MS SQL Server is reporting services, which are reporting platforms based on server and provides detailed data reporting from either multidimensional or relational data. Notification services are the other component that ensures the development of applications to be used in generating and sending of notifications.
The other component is Full-Text Search, which is used in queries of full texts instead of character search in SQL server tables. The last component is a service broker that supports messaging and queuing of applications.
