The IT Fair is happening already this week and it is literally the last chance to make sure you are ready to fish for a new job opportunity.

Recently, we have published a post where we discussed several tips that would help to succeed at Riga Comm IT Fair as an Exhibitor.

Time flies, the IT Fair is happening already this week and it is literally the last chance to make sure you are ready to fish for a new job opportunity.

This time again, we have done research and are presenting you 5 tips that would help you find your dream job at the IT Fair.

TIP 1. PREPARATION IS GOLD

You still have enough time to do research and to find out what companies are participating in Riga Comm. You can have a look at their websites and create a portfolio of each company. Moreover, during the research, you can even find out who is going to represent the company at the event and collect info about that person as well by visiting their LinkedIn page or reading about them at the website. That would help you to have several topics to talk about: company, its mission and goals; employee’s hobbies and work experience. You will also leave a good impression on the potential employers.

TIP 2. REACH OUT IN ADVANCE

If you find the contacts of employees representing the company, you can reach out to them, greet them and make them know that you would like to visit their stand. Some companies are even promoting the fact they are going to look for new candidates. In our case, it would be helpful for you to explore our Career page and contact our HR Department by writing to job@diatomenterprises.com to schedule a meeting.

TIP 3. AVOID BEING TOO ABUSIVE

Remember, you don’t want to leave an impression of a person that is dying to get a new job. When talking to the representatives, show your genuine interest in the industry, the company itself (now the portfolio you made about the company would be handy), listen to what the representatives are saying. Then, you can say that you are also interested in the topic and share your ideas on it. If you already know that several vacancies are open, you can mention that and ask for permission to get HR contacts if they are not present at the event. If no open vacancies were mentioned at the website, ask if there are any and again, try to get HR’s contacts and the permission to contact them.

TIP 4. CHOOSE THE BEST NETWORKING TIME

During Riga Comm Business Innovation Conference will take place. Have a look at the agenda and make sure that you actively network during the sessions. The reason for that is simple: during conference sessions booths are usually less busy, there are not that many people wandering around. As a result, you’ll get a better possibility to have a chat with the company’s representatives.

TIP 5. FOLLOW-UP ASAP

Try to follow-up in straight after the event, preferably no longer than a week. It is usually the perfect follow-up period. Of course, HR people might contact you as well but it would be a good sign if you politely remind about yourself before that. Also, remember that HR people probably have met dozens of people during the IT Fair, they might not remember all those .NET and Java candidates that they were talking with. Don’t be shy, remind what you have talked about, bring up a specific theme you were discussing and do not forget to refer to permission to contact those people after the event. That is polite, charming and professional.

TO SUM UP

Take your time, prepare well and we will be glad to meet you at the event at stand A8.

See you at Riga Comm!
