Microsoft SharePoint Server
Microsoft SharePoint server is configured to support various used web browsers. In order to run and install the software, you must meet the minimum hardware and software requirements. There are different methods of installation, which include a single server with an in-built database installation. The other installation method is with the use of multiple server farm installations.
The hardware requirements in applications apply to both installation methods. The minimum requirements to run SharePoint web servers for a single server are 64-bit and four-core processor. For a developer or evaluation system, should have a minimum of 4 GB RAM. While an 8 GB of RAM is required for production use in both single-server and multi-server farm. The minimum space required in the hard disk is 80 GB of memory.
This is in addition to having sufficient memory for base installation and diagnostics. In case it is for production use, you will be required to have extra space for daily running activities. It is also important o ensure you maintain free space that is twice memory size available for RAM in the production environment. The minimum hardware requirements to run SharePoint database servers include 64-bit four- core for small deployments and 64-bit eight-core processor in medium deployed software.
The minimum RAM requirements for small deployment are 8 GB while 16 GB for medium deployments. The hard disk space requirement varies with the size of SharePoint contents and a minimum of GB is required. The SharePoint configuration includes 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for the database server in a farm. For a single server with a built-in database, 64-bit windows server 2008 standard edition is required.
While for an environment with single server database and front-end web servers and application servers in a farm, it requires a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 that works with PowerPivot workbooks. Browser support is required by SharePoint server for its proper implementation. It is therefore important you understand which browsers the software supports and which performs well. Browser support levels are categorized in three levels that include supported, supported with known limits and not tested.
Features and functions of supported browsers in SharePoint-servers 2010 are fully usable and in case of a problem, a diagnostic help is available. Supported with known limits are browsers known to function properly with the server but there are known limits of its use. Not tested web browsers for SharePoint server are browsers that are not tested and their compatibility is unknown.
Some of the SharePoint supported browsers include Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit) and Internet Explorer 7 (32-Bit). Browsers which are supported but with limitations include Internet Explorer 8 64-bit, internet explorer 7 64-bit, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and Safari 4.04. However, internet explorer 6 32-bit is not tested browser.
